About the Word & Character Counter
The Word & Character Counter analyzes your text and reports the number of words, characters (with and without spaces), lines and paragraphs, plus an estimated reading time. It is handy for staying within length limits on posts, essays and meta descriptions or for gauging how long content takes to read. The analysis runs locally in your browser, keeping your writing private.
How to use
- Paste or type your text into the input box.
- Read the live counts for words, characters, lines and paragraphs.
- Check the estimated reading time for the content.
- Trim or expand your text to meet your target length.
Frequently asked questions
- How is reading time calculated?
- Reading time is estimated from the word count using an average adult reading speed, commonly around 200 to 250 words per minute. It is an approximation, not an exact figure.
- Does the character count include spaces?
- Both totals are shown: characters including spaces and characters excluding spaces, so you can match whichever limit a platform applies.
- Is my text uploaded anywhere?
- No. Counting happens entirely in your browser, so nothing you type or paste is sent to a server.
